Historique
Le château est formé de deux corps de bâtiments en angle droit qui, avec deux murs d'enceinte, forment une cour rectangulaire sur laquelle se détache la tour d'escalier. L'angle nord-est du château est formé par l'ancien donjon carré (12e siècle). Le bâtiment qui fait suite à cette tour est également en ruine. Il a cependant conservé, à l'est, des consoles qui portaient son chemin de ronde. Le premier étage de l'aile sud est occupé par deux salles plafonnées à la française et une petite salle ronde voûtée dans la tour sud-ouest. Cette tour s'élève sur la partie saillante de l'éperon. L'angle nord-ouest a conservé la trace d'une échauguette. Dans le haut des murs d'enceinte de la cour sont percées de petites meurtrières desservies par un chemin de ronde dont il ne reste que les consoles. En 1209, le site porte le nom de "Bastida nova de Castlar".

History
The castle is formed of two building masses at right angles which, with two curtain walls, form a rectangular courtyard from which the staircase tower stands out. The north-east corner of the castle is formed by the old square keep (12th century). The building which follows this tower is also in ruins. It has however retained, to the east, corbels which supported its wall-walk. The first floor of the south wing is occupied by two rooms with French ceilings and a small round vaulted room in the south-west tower. This tower rises on the projecting part of the spur. The north-west corner has retained the trace of a watchtower. In the upper part of the courtyard curtain walls are pierced small loopholes served by a wall-walk of which only corbels remain. In 1209, the site bears the name "Bastida nova de Castlar".
