History

Probably constructed in the second half of the 17th century, the chapel was transformed and enriched in the 18th century. Interior decoration and marble altar date from the 18th century. It is a small rectangular building, with a single nave and flat chevet. The chancel is distinguished from the nave only by a step and a communication grille. Access is from the south by a door in segmental arch with moulded surround. On the east gable a bell turret with a single round-arched arcade has been built. The outer walls are crowned by three rows of Genoese tiles. Inside, the walls of the nave, including the end wall, are articulated by fluted pilasters with ridged grooves and Corinthian capitals. These pilasters support an entablature cornice. The walls are enlivened by projecting panels within which oil paintings on canvas have been placed, relating episodes from the life of saint Roch. The chancel is likewise articulated by pilasters with Corinthian capitals and panels. It is enlivened by faces of winged amoretti in high relief, arranged amid clouds and palm fronds. Pilasters and panels have received painted decoration imitating marble. To the north, near the end of the nave, opens a large lateral chapel with decoration identical to that of the nave, with a group of angel faces similar to those of the chancel. The three paintings that appear inside the panels represent the Annunciation, the Crucifixion and the Visitation. Nave, chancel and chapel are ceiled with lath nailed to rafters and finished with plaster.
