Historique
L'îlot compris entre les rues Viollet-le-Duc, Louis Blanc, Corneille et Droite, portait le nom de l'Ile de l'Hôpital de la Croix. Cette fondation hospitalière très ancienne fut unie à l'hôpital Saint-Paul à une date inconnue. Elle est encore citée en 1377, 1631 et 1639. Jusqu'à la Révolution, son nom est resté attaché à tout ce groupe de maisons, parmi lesquelles se trouvait aussi le Logis du Tapis Royal. L'immeuble actuel tient, pour partie, de l'ancien Logis et, pour l'autre part faisant façade sur la rue Viollet-le-Duc, de l'union de deux maisons, entre 1576 et 1641. C'est entre ces dates que doit se placer la construction du portail, des portiques sur cour et de l'escalier. Le portail est décoré de bossages arrondis, à forte saillie, tranchant par leur teinte claire avec le gris plus sombre des pierres intercalaires. Ecoinçons ornés de bas-reliefs, fruits et légumes. Au-dessus, un fronton rompu devait encadrer un cartouche disparu, motif remplacé au début du 20e siècle par deux écussons découverts dans le jardin de l'immeuble. Par un passage couvert, le portail donne accès à une cour dont le côté gauche est occupé par un escalier avec galerie. La galerie est supportée par un portique de trois arcs, en plein cintre, à clefs saillantes ornées de bossages en trémie. Dans les murs de la cour sont incrustées plusieurs pierres antiques découvertes sur place. La plus importante est un bas-relief représentant une galère.

History
The block comprised between Viollet-le-Duc Street, Louis Blanc Street, Corneille Street and Droite Street bore the name of the Isle of the Hospital of the Cross. This very ancient hospital foundation was united with the Saint-Paul hospital at an unknown date. It is still cited in 1377, 1631 and 1639. Until the Revolution, its name remained attached to this entire group of houses, among which was also found the Logis of the Royal Carpet. The present building owes, in part, to the former Logis and, for the other part forming the façade on Viollet-le-Duc Street, to the union of two houses, between 1576 and 1641. It is between these dates that the construction of the portal, the porticoes on the courtyard and the staircase should be placed. The portal is decorated with rounded bosses, with strong projection, standing out through their light colour against the darker grey of the interspersed stones. Spandrels adorned with bas-reliefs, fruit and vegetables. Above, a broken pediment was to frame a missing cartouche, a motif replaced at the beginning of the 20th century by two escutcheons discovered in the garden of the building. By a covered passage, the portal gives access to a courtyard whose left side is occupied by a staircase with gallery. The gallery is supported by a portico of three arches, in round arch, with projecting keystones adorned with bosses in the form of a hopper. Inset into the courtyard walls are several ancient stones discovered on the spot. The most important is a bas-relief representing a galley.
