Historique

History
Close to an ancient way, the chapel was considered, because of its environment enclosed by walls, as a former leper house whose buildings were subsequently converted into sheepfolds. The church retains horseshoe arches, laid up in tas-de-charge, which leads it to be considered as extending, in the Aude, the dispersal area of pre-Romanesque "Mozarabic" churches. It consists of a small single nave, extended to the east by a flatter chevet of lesser height. The lateral walls of the latter are placed, without bond, against the eastern wall of the nave and equipped with lateral relieving arches. These two arches are slightly horseshoe-shaped. Above, the barrel vault, in rubble, is set well back. The triumphal arch, very thick, rests, by means of rough stone imposts, on pilasters. In the nave, under the south lateral arch, opens the door leading to a ruined building. The interior framing is chamfered, as are the pilasters. It does not appear that this arch can be considered as Romanesque, but much more recent (16th or 17th century). To the small church is attached a vaulted construction which may be an oratory. Further west, a ruined building, of which the round arch of the door remains, may be the presbytery or the remains of a priory.
