Historique
Fanjeaux, berceau des Dominicains, a été un centre religieux extrêmement actif, doté de plusieurs confréries, notamment celle de Notre-Dame. Cette croix a été fixée à un pont construit au 17e siècle. Son emplacement primitif reste inconnu. Il s'agit d'une croix discoïdale de 65cm de diamètre. Le montant, qui fait corps avec le disque, est de section octogonale aplatie. Les quatre bras de la croix sont séparés par des évidements circulaires presque complets, une simple fente séparant les extrêmités pattées. History
Fanjeaux, cradle of the Dominicans, was an extremely active religious centre, endowed with several confraternities, notably that of Notre-Dame. This cross was fixed to a bridge built in the 17th century. Its original location remains unknown. It is a discoidal cross of 65cm diameter. The shaft, which forms one piece with the disc, is of flattened octagonal section. The four arms of the cross are separated by almost complete circular recesses, a simple slit separating the splayed ends. One of the faces is sculpted in its centre with a blessing hand. The other face presents a lamb carrying the oriflammé cross. On each of the arms of the cross is engraved, in relief, an escutcheon. The coats of arms are illegible.
