Ancien château des ducs de Joyeuse. Il ne reste que peu de vestiges d'une construction antérieure au 15e siècle, l'ensemble de l'édifice remontant à la Renaissance. Alors que la chapelle et l'entrée voisine indiquent l'époque de François Ier, le reste est de style Henri II. Les inondations de l'Aude ont rendu de bonne heure les caves du château inhabitables. La construction semble être restée inachevée pour tout ce qui concerne les couronnements sur cour et le décor intérieur. Les pièces sont couvertes de plafonds à la française. L'entrée principale, à l'est, est ornée de deux colonnes doriques, avec bossages vermiculés, couronnées d'un fronton. La défense basse, au rez-de-chaussée des tours, ne servait qu'au flanquement. En haut, au dernier étage de ces mêmes tours, sont placées les archères. Ce portique devait, au moins en projet, se terminer par une loggia couverte. Le balcon en encorbellement de l'angle nord-est n'est que le passage qui conduisait à cette galerie projetée ou aujourd'hui détruite. Les pièces de rez-de-chaussée sont voûtées d'arête, sauf les tours couvertes d'une coupole.

History
Former castle of the dukes of Joyeuse. Little remains of construction predating the 15th century, the whole of the edifice dating from the Renaissance. While the chapel and neighbouring entrance indicate the period of François Ier, the rest is in the Henri II style. The floods of the Aude rendered the castle cellars uninhabitable at an early date. The construction appears to have remained unfinished as regards the roof-line treatments on the courtyard side and the interior decoration. The rooms are covered with French ceilings. The main entrance, to the east, is adorned with two Doric columns, with vermiculated rustication, crowned with a pediment. The low defence, at ground floor level of the towers, served only for flanking. Above, at the upper storey of these same towers, are placed the arrow slits. In the honour court, the façade of the entrance portico is adorned with three orders with cartouches in the lower part on the ground floor, large modillions in the frieze above. This portico was intended, at least in design, to terminate with a covered loggia. The corbelled balcony of the north-east angle is only the passage which led to this planned gallery or now destroyed. The ground floor rooms are vaulted with groins, except the towers covered with a dome.
