History

The castle was constructed at the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century, the 12th century parts appearing in basement. The building is of rectangular plan with one storey over ground floor, with roof space and cellar. Against its north façade was grafted in the 19th century a building mass intended essentially for agricultural use. Against the south façade rises, as an outbuilding, a polygonal tower in which is housed a spiral staircase. To the north, two square towers with pavilion roofs precede the main body of the castle. They are furnished with arrow slits to flank the enclosure walls. The basement consists of rooms with round arch vaults, slightly pointed arch vaults and ribbed vaults. Two pointed arch doors with chamfered framing are part of the primitive medieval construction. The distribution of the ground floor is organised around two corridors. All rooms have ceilings (plaster ceilings with mouldings, 18th-19th century). Access to the first floor is either by the spiral staircase or by the monumental staircase with straight flights of the east part, built at the end of the 17th century. The billiard room retains a decoration of wall gypseries organised in panels and representing hunting and war trophies, attributes of music and poetry. The whole is framed or underlined with vegetable ornaments. The north-east and north-west pavilions have retained elements of defence.
