Historique

History
According to an inscription placed above the archivolt, the church is said to have been built in 1162. Having become too narrow for the population, it was replaced by a larger church in 1321, which caused the Romanesque choir to disappear, and which itself remained unfinished and devoid of vaults. In the 16th century, the Romanesque nave became the chapel of Saint-Michel. The portal is surmounted by a bell tower in brick pierced with arcades. It serves as a passage and is not fitted with any doors. It is one of the elements of the former Romanesque church. It presents small columns as well as a frieze at the height of the capitals. The 14th-century church is covered with modern vaults: the pillars alone are in ashlar as well as the capitals, the rest is in brick. The chapel of the Holy Sepulchre is built against the chevet. It is an addition to the original plan which can be dated to the end of the 15th century. It is said to have been constructed by the family of Claverie who had their burial there. It is covered by a vault with liernes and tiercerons, decorated with paintings in grisaille from the end of the 18th century, perhaps covering over Renaissance decoration. The wrought-iron grille which closes it dates from the 15th century. Inside are found a sepulchre which consists of a stone altar with mouldings from the 15th century; a holy sepulchre placed beneath an arcature whose archivolt and jambs bear a hollow moulding decorated with foliage, sculpture from the 15th century. The altar supports a tomb surrounded by seven figures of whom two, on the sides, are burying the body of Christ. The back of the arcature is decorated with nine small figures of angels in high relief, borne by clouds and holding in their hands the instruments of the Passion.
