Historique

History
Built between 1882 and 1887 by the architect Eugène Danjoy, the castle is the last great building of this type constructed in Franche-Comté. It replaces the former residence burned down during the War of 1870-1871, the ruins of which remain to the north-east of the present building. Construction in Neo-Louis XIII style with asymmetry of the east and west wings to simulate the antiquity of the castle and to mark the difference in function of each part. The gigantic ground-floor hall and the bow-window of the west pavilion are references to English architecture. Metal structures underpin the building at each floor level and in the main staircase. The use of brick and stone for the main construction is rare in the residences of the Comtois nobility, traditionally built in stone and tiles.
