Historique
Abbaye bénédictine fondée à Faverney au 8e siècle, donnée aux moines de la Chaise-Dieu en 1132. Des bâtiments médiévaux ne restent que certaines parties de l'église. Les bâtiments conventuels ont été reconstruits à partir de la fin du 17e siècle en trois campagnes ; 1683-1688 : quartier abbatial, actuellement mairie ; 1713-1733 : bâtiments conventuels sur les plans de Dom Vincent Duchesne ; avant 1789 : remises. Après la Révolution, l'église devient paroissiale, le quartier abbatial est transformé en hôtel de ville. Les bâtiments conventuels, vendus comme biens nationaux et en partie détruits, seront reconstruits à la fin du 19e et au début du 20e siècles avant d'accueillir le séminaire de philosophie de 1911 à 1967.

History
Benedictine abbey founded at Faverney in the 8th century, given to the monks of La Chaise-Dieu in 1132. Of medieval buildings only certain parts of the church remain. The convent buildings were rebuilt from the end of the 17th century in three campaigns; 1683-1688: abbatial quarter, currently town hall; 1713-1733: convent buildings on the plans of Dom Vincent Duchesne; before 1789: outbuildings. After the Revolution, the church becomes parochial, the abbatial quarter is transformed into town hall. The convent buildings, sold as national property and partly destroyed, were rebuilt at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries before housing the seminary of philosophy from 1911 to 1967.
