History
The cathedral corresponds to the former church of the abbey of Saint-Oyend which dated back to the early Middle Ages. The building was entirely rebuilt at the end of the 14th century, on the site of the former Romanesque abbatial church which has now disappeared. The fires of 1547, 1579 and 1799 led to major interventions on the upper parts of the building. The elevation of the abbatial church to cathedral status in 1742 led to several campaigns of works and alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries.
