Historique

History
The forges are built by virtue of an order of the King's Council of 1705. The whole consists in 1790 of a blast furnace, a forge and refinery hearths. It is integrated in 1854 into the company of Blast Furnaces, Foundries and Forges of Franche-Comté. The factory is rebuilt between 1854 and 1857 to become the principal centre of cast iron manufacture for the company and to ensure the supply of the "new forge" of Fraisans on which it depends. Three blast furnaces using wood and two using coke operate in 1857, but the former, less profitable, are gradually stopped and demolished. In 1877, only one coke blast furnace still operates. Closed in 1891, the factory is occupied from 1938 to 1976 by a company which manufactures charcoal. A hydroelectric power station, built in 1920, is still in operation. More than a protection (Registration on the Supplementary Inventory of historic monuments), this metallurgical site, the last example of a coke blast furnace in the Jura, would have deserved conservation measures.
