In the struggle opposing the Chalon to the Vienne for the domination of the Lons-le-Saunier region, Jean de Chalon erected a fortress in 1253. In 1445, the castle acquired its present physiognomy. It is composed of a rectangular keep, a main building and a pentagonal curtain wall flanked by semi-circular towers protecting an interior courtyard. The fortified borough and the lower courtyard were abandoned in the middle of the 17th century. In 1674, the castle was dismantled. In the 18th century, it became a gentleman's house. Wine-growing operation after 1845. Restored in 1923 by the architect Georges Martin.
