Palais construit de 1534 à 1540 par Nicolas Perrenot de Granvelle, premier conseiller d'Etat et garde des sceaux de l'empereur Charles-Quint. Après la conquête française, le palais devient la résidence du gouverneur de la province. Dans la première moitié du 18e siècle, installation d'une salle de théâtre et de l'Académie des Sciences, Belles-Lettres et Arts. Vendu comme bien national à la Révolution, il devient immeuble de rapport pendant une grande partie du 19e siècle. Il est acheté par la municipalité en 1864 et devient musée d'histoire après la seconde guerre mondiale.

History
Palace built from 1534 to 1540 by Nicolas Perrenot de Granvelle, first state councillor and keeper of the seals of the Emperor Charles V. After the French conquest, the palace becomes the residence of the governor of the province. In the first half of the 18th century, installation of a theatre hall and of the Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts. Sold as national property during the Revolution, it becomes a rental building for a large part of the 19th century. It is purchased by the municipality in 1864 and becomes a history museum after the Second World War.
