Historique

History
Urban fortifications dating essentially from the first half of the 13th century. On the plateau corresponding to the citadel some vestiges of the 12th century survive. Excavations have revealed a few elements of the 11th century in the filled-in ditch which separated the citadel from the town. The town was the subject of sieges in the 15th century. Ramparts dismantled in 1487 after the taking of the town by Charles VIII, who authorised their restoration in 1492. At the beginning of the 16th century, works of alteration took place. After the Wars of Religion, the ramparts were the subject of demolitions, having lost their military importance.
