Le fief d'Allonne a été donné, en 1119, au prieuré de Parthenay-le-Vieux par Guillaume Larchevêque, alors retenu captif par le comte de Poitiers. Les moines de Parthenay auraient fait construire cette église. De plan rectangulaire, l'édifice devait se terminer, à l'origine, par une abside circulaire. Un chevet plat fut construit au 13e siècle en vue d'agrandir l'église. Cette reconstruction du choeur en style gothique angevin, altère l'unité de l'église romane primitive. La travée carrée située sous le clocher, est couverte d'une coupole hémisphérique sur pendentifs. Le clocher octogonal se dégage d'une souche carrée par quatre glacis triangulaires. Un porche moderne occulte le portail occidental. Les murs au-dessus des corniches ont été surélevés probablement au moment des guerres contre les Anglais.

History
The fief of Allonne was given, in 1119, to the priory of Parthenay-le-Vieux by Guillaume Larchevêque, who was then held captive by the count of Poitiers. The monks of Parthenay are said to have had this church built. Of rectangular plan, the building was originally to be terminated by a circular apse. A flat chevet was built in the 13th century with a view to enlarging the church. This reconstruction of the choir in Angevin Gothic style alters the unity of the primitive Romanesque church. The square bay situated under the bell tower is covered by a hemispherical cupola on pendentives. The octagonal bell tower emerges from a square base by four triangular slopes. A modern porch obscures the western portal. The walls above the cornices were heightened probably at the time of the wars against the English.
