History

The rectory depended on the former archpriest district of la Mayze. It was built near the castle and sheltered the sepulchres of the lords of the place from the 12th century. Its plan is rectangular and is composed of a single nave and a narrower choir, of square plan. A rectangular chapel was added to the south wall of the nave in the 18th century. The western portal is of the 13th-century Limousin type. Four voussures in a slightly broken arch present tori of a frieze. A moulded archivolte with right-angle return underlines the extrados of the voussures. Situated to the south-east, the bell tower wall is perpendicular to the axis of the church. At the level of the gable, it is opened by four arcades, in round arch, arranged on two storeys. Inside, on the western wall, column supports rest on sculptured corbels and capitals decorated with Roman ornaments. A 13th-century tomb niche was fitted in the north wall. The choir was remade and serves as a sacristy. It opens onto the nave through a 12th-century triumphal arch in pink granite which rests on pillars flanked with small columns with Roman capitals.
