Historique
Le projet d'une nouvelle préfecture est décidé en 1895, l'architecte parisien Jules Godefroy emportant le concours organisé en 1897. Les travaux de construction sont adjugés en 1903 et la préfecture est achevée en 1904, avec des sculptures décoratives par Henri Varenne. La décoration intérieure, réalisée entre 1905 et 1913, rassemble des oeuvres représentatives du répertoire de la peinture décorative de la Troisième République, signées, entre autres, des peintres Eugène Alluaud, Jean Teilliet, Albert-Antoine Lambert (allégorie des métiers régionaux) , Raphaël Collin, Charles-Auguste Mengin, Noël Bouton (figures de la Liberté, de l'Egalité, de la Fraternité) et François Thèvenot. History
The project for a new prefecture is decided in 1895, the Parisian architect Jules Godefroy winning the competition organised in 1897.
