Pierre de Cheyssou gave, around 1100, the place and chapel of Cheissou to saint Gaucher, founder of Aureil, who ceded it himself to Aton, prior of Saint-Léonard. The present building appears to date from the 13th century. Of rectangular plan, with a single nave, it terminates with a flat chevet. A rectangular room serves as sacristy. The western façade presents a gable wall pierced by a portal with triple arcade of which only the central one is open. The portal is of Limousin type with two voussures. An archivolte frames the central opening, extended by a blind arcading in pointed arch that rests on corbels adjoining the angle buttresses. The bell tower gable, topped with an antefix cross, is pierced by two round-arch arcades. In the interior, on either side of the entrance, three corbels formerly had to support a gallery. A lavabo with two basins, in broken arch, is housed below the stepped window of the south wall. At the chevet, scales in the limewash allow glimpses of fragments of painted decoration. On the parvis, the 15th-century cross rises on a quadrangular, slightly tapered base, placed at the centre of a flight of steps. The shaft is also quadrangular. Its edges chamfered are decorated with ball crockets. The cross is entirely sculptured in bas-relief. On one side is figured Christ clothed in a short tunic, his head inclined to the right. His arms are supported by two figures in long robe. The sculpted accolade above Christ indicates the flamboyant period. On the other side is figured the Virgin, also under accolade, bearing the Child. The horizontal branches of the cross carry at their extremity rectangular prisms, capped with a roof form. On the three faces of these volumes is sculpted, in cove, under a trefoil arch, a figure in long robe.
