Mareilles-au-Prieur est une paroisse rattachée depuis 1842 à la commune de Sous-Parsat. Son église dépendait du prieuré de Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat dès la fin du 12ème siècle. Des rapports écrits, en 1890 attestent que l'église était recouverte d'un toit à deux pans en tuiles. Le clocher ainsi que sa flèche étaient en ardoises. Un autre document, datant de 1921, décrit un choeur décoré de peintures murales avec au centre une crucifixion, à gauche saint Jean-Jean-Baptiste et à droite, un sujet effacé, et évoque la présence de médaillons figurés sur le lambris de la voûte. Deux petites baies en plein cintre laissait la lumière pénétrer le chur.£L'église se compose d'une nef unique à chevet droit bâtie en moellons et pierre de taille de granit. Une simple porte ménagée dans le mur sud s'ouvre sur la nef dont le sol est revêtu de dalles de granit parmi lesquelles se trouve une dalle funéraire. Le clocher, de plan quadrangulaire, est accessible par une porte depuis la nef. Il convient également de noter l'utilisation dans l'édifice d'éléments lapidaires gallo-romains issus d'un site voisin.

History
Mareilles-au-Prieur is a parish attached since 1842 to the commune of Sous-Parsat. Its church was dependent on the priory of Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat from the end of the 12th century. Written reports from 1890 attest that the church was covered with a roof with two slopes in tiles. The bell tower and its spire were in slates. Another document dating from 1921 describes a choir decorated with wall paintings with at the centre a crucifixion, to the left Saint Jean-Jean-Baptiste and to the right, an effaced subject, and mentions the presence of figured medallions on the wainscoting of the vault. Two small round-arched openings let light penetrate the choir. The church comprises a single nave with a straight chevet built in rubble stone and cut granite. A simple door set in the south wall opens onto the nave whose floor is covered with granite slabs among which is found a sepulchral slab. The bell tower, of quadrangular plan, is accessible by a door from the nave. It is also fitting to note the use in the building of Gallo-Roman stone elements from a neighbouring site.
