Historique
Le château féodal a été bâti à la demande de Robert Ier, dauphin d'Auvergne, seigneur de Crocq, faisant du lieu une place militaire importante. Il a été rasé en 1632 par ordre de Richelieu. Il en subsiste deux tours reliées par une courtine. Elles sont de plan demi-circulaire et fermées à la gorge. Elles sont formées de deux étages dont le dernier est voûté en berceau. History
The feudal château was built at the request of Robert I, dauphin of Auvergne, lord of Crocq, making of the place an important military stronghold. It was razed in 1632 by order of Richelieu. There remain of it two towers linked by a curtain wall. They are of semi-circular plan and closed at the gorge. They are formed of two storeys of which the last is barrel-vaulted. Access to the towers was by a spiral staircase whose lower cage is still visible. The storeys, without direct communication between them, could be defended in isolation. At ground level of the south-east tower, a narrow passage opened out into the moat. The curtain wall stopped at the foot of the last storey of the towers.
