Historique

History
Church mentioned from the 12th century. Before the Revolution, la Celle-Dunoise possessed a priory-cure whose incumbent's appointment belonged to the bishop of Limoges. During the Revolution, the church served as a Temple of Reason and meeting place for electoral assemblies. Catholic worship was restored in year XI. The building was enlarged in 1862 according to the plans of architect Masbrenier: lengthening of a bay, opening of a main door in the west gable, relocation of the gallery, north portal remasoned. In 1868, the sacristy was demolished and replaced by a chapel against which a new sacristy was built. In 1879, the choir was decorated with a fresco executed by Albert Bertolletti. The church comprises a nave of three bays vaulted with ribs or a broken barrel vault. It ends with a choir and an apse of three sides covered with a groin vault and penetrating vaults. Access is by two doors, including the monumental north portal which has retained, on the third voussure, capitals sculptured with animals. The square bell tower rises above the second bay bordered, to the south, by a spiral staircase arranged in the masonry. The door and apse date from the 12th century. Inside, the triumphal arch rests on capitals with baskets sculptured with animals. Similarly, the central opening of the apse presents capitals sculptured with floral motifs. The stained glass dates from the 19th century.
