History
The buildings of the castle flank the town gate. They appear to date from the 16th century with painted decoration of the late 16th - early 17th century, and wooden doors of the same period. The building of the gate proper is flanked, to the east, by a vast edifice and, to the west, by a section of building to the north adjoining a section of building to the south which has a watch-turret at the south-east corner and a large square tower at the south-west corner. Inside, the whole has retained its original character, including the hall with wall paintings on the ground floor of the large square tower. These paintings represent, in painted frames, the twelve sibyls and the twelve caesars and, above, inhabited landscapes.
