Historique
Construit à partir de 1097 par Guillaume Le Roux, duc de Normandie, pour renforcer la frontière de l'Epte, ce château prenait place sur la frontière entre le duché et le royaume de France. Il fut renforcé par les Plantagenêt au 12e siècle, puis pendant la guerre de Cent Ans. Son rôle déclina au 16e siècle. Son démantèlement fut ordonné par Mazarin en 1647. Transformé en exploitation agricole sous l'Ancien Régime, il comprend : une motte castrale escarpée surmontée d'un donjon de pierre entouré de sa chemise, une basse-cour reliée à la motte et défendue par une courtine flanquée à l'est et à l'ouest de deux portes fortifiées (14e siècle) , un ancien pont-levis, et, dans la basse-cour, une grange d'époque médiévale, un logis du 17e siècle, un colombier. Devenu exploitation agricole sous l'Ancien Régime, l'ensemble est en mauvais état.

History
Constructed from 1097 by William the Red, Duke of Normandy, to reinforce the frontier of the Epte, this castle was positioned on the frontier between the duché and the kingdom of France. It was reinforced by the Plantagenets in the 12th century, then during the Hundred Years War. Its role declined in the 16th century. Its dismantling was ordered by Mazarin in 1647. Transformed into an agricultural holding under the ancien régime, it comprises: a steep motte surmounted by a stone keep surrounded by its curtain wall, a lower court connected to the motte and defended by a curtain wall flanked to the east and west by two fortified gates (14th century), an old drawbridge, and, in the lower court, a barn of medieval date, a dwelling of the 17th century, a dovecot. Having become an agricultural holding under the ancien régime, the whole is in poor condition.
