Au 16e siècle, la République de Gênes, pour assurer la sécurité de l'île et parer aux menaces corsaires, conçut un système de défense constitué par de nombreuses vigies forteresses sur tout le pourtour de l'île. History
In the 16th century, the Republic of Genoa, to ensure the security of the island and counter corsair threats, conceived a defence system constituted by numerous watchtower fortresses around the entire perimeter of the island. It was facing this tower that the embassy sent in 1566 by Sampiero Corso to the court of Catherine de Medici was massacred by the Genoese.
