Historique
Echauguette édifiée à la fin du 16e siècle, seul élément du bastion de défense constitué par le quartier Pietraggio. Elle permit de donner l'alerte, en 1583, lorsque les barbaresques d'Alger donnèrent l'assaut à la ville, s'en emparèrent et emmenèrent plus de 400 hommes en esclavage. C'est une petite construction d'angle, de plan carré, avec une ouverture de guet carrée sur trois façades. Une ouverture sur la quatrième façade permet l'accès de plain-pied depuis le jardin qui occupe la terrasse de ce qui reste de l'ancien bastion. Elle possède une couverture en dôme, de petit appareil. L'échauguette est en porte à faux sur le mur d'enceinte.

History
Echauguette erected at the end of the 16th century, sole element of the defensive bastion constituted by the Pietraggio district. It allowed the alarm to be raised, in 1583, when the Barbary corsairs from Algiers assaulted the town, took it, and carried off more than 400 men into slavery. It is a small corner construction, of square plan, with a square lookout opening on three façades. An opening on the fourth façade allows access at ground level from the garden which occupies the terrace of what remains of the old bastion. It has a dome covering, of small ashlar. The echauguette is cantilevered over the enclosure wall.
