Historique

History
Church erected in the period of Pisan rule, in the 12th century. The nave ends in a circular apse. In the angle formed by the apse and the nave to the south, rises a bell tower built in 1864. Dating from the same period is the interior transformation of the church (plaster render, Ionic pilasters, barrel vault...). On the exterior, the façades have almost entirely preserved their primitive aspect. They are constructed in granite. The west façade is pierced by a door whose granite lintel rests on two moulded corbels. Above, in the tympanum, a round arch opening lights the nave. In the south façade formerly opened a door approximately similar. In each lateral façade of the nave, three openings open out, surmounted by a lintel hollowed in an elliptical cul-de-four. Under the projection of the roofs, the stones of the third course are laid in a sawtooth pattern, according to a system very widespread in Genoa at the same period. The façades are crowned by a gable decorated with an arcade borne by corbels. The central arcade is larger, round arch, and contains on the west a small cruciform opening that is found in almost all 12th-century buildings in Corsica. The gable of the west façade is decorated with two small carved figurines, doubtless representing Adam and Eve.
