Historique
La construction des bâtiments de l'Hospice général commence en 1698. La chapelle Saint-Charles, en forme de croix latine non orientée, conçue par l'architecte Jacques V Gabriel, est édifiée au centre de la cour de 1713 à 1717. Restée inachevée, elle n'est terminée qu'en 1864 par l'architecte Thuillier. Elle s'insère au centre des bâtiments de l'hospice général auxquels elle est reliée par l'extrémité de son chevet et de chacun des bras du transept, cloisonnant l'espace central en quatre cours. The construction of the buildings of the Hospice général begins in 1698. The chapel of Saint-Charles, in the form of a Latin cross not oriented, designed by the architect Jacques V Gabriel, is built at the centre of the courtyard from 1713 to 1717.
