History

The former abbey and the Chapel of Bethlehem are from the 15th century. The abbey formerly communicated with the church by means of a portico which has been demolished. The latter led, in the wall of the church, to an ornate door. Near this blocked door there is a vaulted room with two isolated pillars, with a double longitudinal bay and three bays on the former disappeared portico, through which one accesses an old vaulted chapel with a square chevet. In this chapel can be seen, on the right, the remains of an old stone credence. Following the first room, there is an old vestibule giving access to the portico, followed by a large room of five bays. The exterior wall of these various rooms retains traces of arches and vaults indicating the existence of an old cloister. The disappeared buildings bore the name of "small cloister". Following the room of five bays there is a series of more modern buildings, or completely remodelled, in particular the 17th-century pavilion of which only the façade with rusticated angles remains. An isolated door in the garden appears to have been simply moved to this place after the demolition of a building which no longer exists. The Chapel of Bethlehem is not part of the same buildings but is backed against the enclosure wall of the abbey. It has been modified at different periods, in particular during the Renaissance, by the opening of a few openings.
