The Ministère de la Culture's notice
Historique

History
The circular keep is the only remaining part of the primitive fortress, a rare type of 12th-century military architecture. The original layout of its plan changes from circular form to polygonal form with sixteen sides with reinforcing pilasters at the edges. Interior wall-walk. From the 17th-century castle only the left wing remains, which has been reworked. Below the existing wing, there still exists the passage leading to the upper terrace. The orangery occupies the central part between the two wings. It consists of a long 18th-century gallery, vaulted with groin vault in rubble stone and brick, and lit by glass windows. The well known as "Jean Goujon", forming a motif on the great terrace, is a small 16th-century building covered by a dome. This ensemble would have been constructed at the request of admiral de Coligny who stayed in the commune in 1550, 1554 or again in 1563.
