Historique

History
The building presents three major periods of construction. The whole of the years 1535-1545 comprises the towers and their bays with the superposed pilasters characteristic of the first Renaissance; the staircase has a ramp-over-ramp structure. From the years 1750-1770 date the wing of the Vieux Chalay, the arrangement of the interior rooms and the enlargement of the south facade. Finally, the 19th century reworked the south facade, the envelope of the east pavilion, the facade affixed to the wing of the Vieux Chalay, the modification of the portal, the construction of the chapel, the creation of the orangery and the layout of the park. Chalay conforms to local tradition and to the type of manor derived from those of King René. With the introduction of its narrow pavilion reserved for the staircase with straight ramps, the château established itself as an innovative example in the years 1530-1540 in terms of architecture and in the field of sculpture, in this part of the Vendômois.
