A l'emplacement d'un édifice antérieur fut construite au 12e siècle une église dédiée à Notre-Dame-la-Pauvre. Au 15e siècle, l'église romane fut reconstruite. Une des tours du 12e siècle dite Pilier de La Riche est demeurée visible jusqu'en 1785. L'église fut voûtée d'ogives, à l'exception de la nef qui conserva une charpente apparente lambrissée. Le peintre tourangeau Jean Fouquet réalisa le décor de l'église. En 1562, les Protestants mirent l'église à sac. L'église fut en partie restaurée au cours de la seconde moitié du 16e siècle. Le jubé en bois fut abattu en 1746 et remplacé par une grille en ferronnerie. En 1791, l'église fut fermée au culte puis transformée en fabrique de salpêtre. La restauration de l'église fut confiée à Gustave Guérin de 1860 à 1866 : à l'intérieur, nef couverte de voûtes d'ogives en brique ; à l'extérieur, portails sud et ouest entièrement refaits. La façade sud a été restaurée de 1991 à 1995.

History
On the site of an earlier building there was constructed in the 12th century a church dedicated to Notre-Dame-la-Pauvre. In the 15th century, the Romanesque church was rebuilt. One of the 12th-century towers called Pilier de La Riche remained visible until 1785. The church was vaulted with ribs, with the exception of the nave which retained an exposed timber roof with a coffered ceiling. The Tourangeau painter Jean Fouquet carried out the decoration of the church. In 1562, the Protestants sacked the church. The church was partly restored in the second half of the 16th century. The wooden rood screen was taken down in 1746 and replaced by an ironwork grille. In 1791, the church was closed to worship and then transformed into a saltpetre factory. The restoration of the church was entrusted to Gustave Guérin from 1860 to 1866: inside, nave covered with brick rib vaults; outside, south and west portals entirely remade. The south façade was restored from 1991 to 1995.
