Le cardinal de Richelieu décida de transformer le village où il était né en une ville dont les plans furent tracés par l'architecte du château, Jacques Lemercier. La ville présente un plan régulier, avec fossés, mur d'enceinte, portes monumentales, rues symétriques et maisons alignées. Cette maison conserve, dans l'angle de sa cour, un escalier en bois composé d'un pan formant une demi-tourelle ajourée sur plan demi-octogonal, et contenant un escalier à vis desservant les deux étages. Les poteaux d'angle portent des sablières obliques soutenant les marches et la rampe à balustres tournés. Le tout est couvert d'un comble en pavillon.

History
Cardinal de Richelieu decided to transform the village where he was born into a town whose plans were drawn up by the château's architect, Jacques Lemercier. The town presents a regular layout, with ditches, wall of enclosure, monumental gates, symmetrical streets and aligned houses. This house preserves, in the corner of its courtyard, a wooden staircase composed of a panel forming a half-turret with pierced openings on a semi-octagonal plan, and containing a spiral staircase serving the two storeys. The corner posts bear oblique sills supporting the steps and the balustrade with turned balusters. The whole is covered by a roof in pavilion form.
