Historique
Eglise de style romano-byzantin, fondée par Effroy, seigneur de la Roche Posay et de Preuilly, achevée en 1009. Elle fut bâtie pour servir à une abbaye bénédictine. De plan en croix latine, elle présente des déambulatoires autour de l'abside et des chapelles à l'extrémité de chaque croisillon du transept. A la naissance de chacun des croisillons avait été bâtie primitivement une tour avec clocher. Le déambulatoire donne accès à trois chapelles absidales. Dans la nef, chaque pilier, carré dans la masse, est cantonné de quatre colonnettes arrondies. Les chapiteaux s'ornent de feuillages, de bandelettes, de figures fantastiques et de représentations humaines. Au 15e siècle, les murs ont été consolidés par des contreforts. Une crypte est située sous le sanctuaire.

History
Church of Romanesque-Byzantine style, founded by Effroy, seigneur de la Roche Posay and de Preuilly, completed in 1009. It was built to serve a Benedictine abbey. Of Latin-cross plan, it presents ambulatories around the apse and chapels at the end of each arm of the transept. At the springing of each of the transept arms had been originally built a tower with bell tower. The ambulatory gives access to three apsidal chapels. In the nave, each pillar, square in mass, is flanked by four rounded columnettes. The capitals are ornamented with foliage, ribbons, fantastic figures and human representations. In the 15th century, the walls were consolidated by buttresses. A crypt is situated beneath the sanctuary.
