Historique
Cette église est le seul édifice conservé de l'ancien château de la Haye (démoli). Fondée en 1104, il s'agissait d'une chapelle castrale, devenue église paroissiale de 1220 à 1789. Elle est constituée d'une nef qui se continue par une travée sur plan carré qui, entourée d'arcades en plein cintre et voûtée d'une coupole sur pendentifs à base octogonale, supportait le clocher aujourd'hui disparu. Au sud, subsiste la tour d'escalier qui y conduisait. Le choeur, encore plus étroit, est voûté en berceau et terminé par une abside en cul de four. Par endroit subsistent des vestiges de peintures murales romanes (Christ en majesté au fond de l'abside et au centre de la voûte ; cavalier lancé au galop ; personnage battant du grain...). L'église a été agrandie au nord, au 13e siècle, par un collatéral. René Descartes y fut baptisé.

History
This church is the only building preserved from the old château de la Haye (demolished). Founded in 1104, it was a castle chapel, which became a parish church from 1220 to 1789. It consists of a nave which continues with a bay on square plan which, surrounded by round-arch arcades and vaulted with a dome on pendentives with an octagonal base, supported the bell tower which no longer exists. To the south, the staircase tower which led to it survives. The choir, even narrower, is vaulted in barrel vault and terminated by an apse with a cul-de-four. In places there survive remains of Romanesque mural paintings (Christ in majesty at the back of the apse and in the centre of the vault; a horseman in gallop; a figure threshing grain...). The church was enlarged to the north in the 13th century by an aisle. René Descartes was baptised there.
