Historique

Ancien fief relevant du château de Chinon. A la Révolution, il est vendu comme bien national. Certaines parties du château médiéval remontent aux 12e et 13e siècles (charpente, peintures murales) , et au 15e siècle. La distribution intérieure est authentiquement gothique, notamment pour la grande salle du premier étage. Les deux pignons du comble sont décorés de peintures (13e siècle) , représentant des cavaliers s'affrontant en tournoi. La fontaine et les portes sont du 17e siècle. L'aile du 19e siècle comporte quelques éléments gothiques. Certaines pièces ont été restaurées en 1937 par l'architecte Louis Sue.

History

Former fief dependent on the château of Chinon. At the Revolution, it was sold as national property. Certain parts of the medieval château date back to the 12th and 13th centuries (roof structure, wall paintings), and to the 15th century. The interior layout is authentically Gothic, notably for the great hall on the first floor. The two gables of the roof space are decorated with paintings (13th century) depicting horsemen clashing in tournament. The fountain and doors date from the 17th century. The 19th-century wing contains some Gothic elements. Certain rooms were restored in 1937 by architect Louis Sue.
