Historique

History
The castellany was held from Montrichard. The châtelet dates from the 16th century and presents a more decorative than defensive aspect. It consists of a square tower with two storeys, above the vaulted porch with double door, flanked externally by two turrets supported by corbels and lit by large windows with stone cross divisions, decorated with Renaissance pilasters. On the internal side, an octagonal staircase tower gives access to the storeys. The corner tower of the enclosure, cylindrical, is pierced by arrow slits at the defensive angles. In the 18th century, a cornice may have replaced the rafter tails or the machicolations. Towards the honour courtyard, a connection gives an idea of the walls that linked this tower to the château and the châtelet. The round tower adjacent to the château may date from the 14th century and was rebuilt. It is crowned by a wall walk dating from the 15th century. A staircase descends from this curtain wall to two superimposed square chambers with Gothic stone fireplaces. At the lower storey is found a vaulted room and, below, must have existed a sort of cellar or defensive lower room. In the château, the ceiling of the dining room was preserved despite alterations of the early 20th century. A painting in grey and black camieu on rough beams presents decorative motifs of foliage and arabesques that may date from the late 16th century.
