History

The tomb of the Duke of Choiseul was erected in 1785 at Amboise, according to his last wishes, demolished at the Revolution and restored in 1802 by Léonard Perrault. The monument consists, above a stone base, of a marble parallelepiped plinth placed upright, on each face of which plates of black marble bear inscriptions. A moulded entablature projects on three sides, west, north and south, and supports a stone crowning finished with a pine cone. The tomb of Léonard Perrault, from a family of Amboise and protected by the Duke of Choiseul, was erected in 1815. Recumbent on a moulded plinth, a parallelepiped presents, on each face, a frame surrounding a funerary inscription. It is covered by a four-sided domed crowning, finished with a pine cone. Deceased in 1812, Henri-Michel d'Amboise, lord of Clos Lucé, was one of the last representatives of the Amboise family. He appeared in 1789 at the electoral assembly of the Touraine nobility, and was elected deputy alternate to the Estates General. On a plinth of square section, surmounted by an entablature, stands a tall pyramid of stone. A plate fixed on the plinth bears a funerary inscription.
