History
This tower is the only remains of the old château of the 12th century, and served as the entrance gate to the fortress. Its plan is square, except for a staircase tourelle on the southern façade. The door is preserved, with its vault and the position of the portcullises and drawbridge. Above are two halls with three fireplaces. The roof structure and roofing date from the 18th century. Of the four towers with which the château was flanked, none survives in its entirety. The drawbridge disappeared around 1810. This keep is a well-preserved example of military architecture.
