La tour rectangulaire est tout ce qui reste du château seigneurial de la puissante baronnie de la Châtre. Au 18e siècle, le donjon est transformé en prison. La tour fut sans doute réédifiée en même temps que les derniers remparts de la ville, entre 1417 et 1440. History
The rectangular tower is all that remains of the seigneurial castle of the powerful barony of La Châtre. In the 18th century, the keep is converted into a prison. The tower was no doubt rebuilt at the same time as the last ramparts of the town, between 1417 and 1440. The interior of the four storeys is served by a spiral stone staircase in a turret and composed, at each landing, of a vast room with fireplace, another smaller one, and a dark closet.
