History

The church presents, overall, the characteristics of 16th-century architecture. It certainly replaced a much older church, to which belonged the tower which could be from the end of the 12th century. Inside this tower, remains or springings of a rib vault rising from corbels embedded in the walls. The primitive nave was entirely remodelled in the 16th century, when the choir was added, begun around 1520 and completed before 1542. The large pointed-arch windows replaced, at the end of the 19th century, those of Romanesque period. The main door is ornamented with colonnettes with deep channels, accompanied by arabesques and open-work crockets. It was formerly sheltered by a porch. On the north facade of the nave, the square tower is divided into two storeys, indicated externally by a band without sculpture. Internally, the church was entirely retouched in the 19th century. In the course of these works, old frescoes were found but were not preserved. The choir windows are ornamented with 16th-century stained glass.
