Historique
C'est, à Chartres, le plus bel exemple de porte de la première moitié du 16e siècle. Les piedroits, reposant sur un socle, portent des chapiteaux ornés dans leurs angles. A droite, oiseaux à tête humaine ; à gauche, aigles ; au centre, tête d'ange et fleuron. L'ornementation qui couvre la face de ces piédroits figure les attributs de la paix et de la guerre. A droite, trompettes, tambours, viole, violon et archet ; à gauche, arc et carquois, gantelet, dragon, armure. Au-dessus de l'entablement, ayant frise agrémentée de rinceaux finissant en tête de dauphin et corniche, s'élève un fronton que dessine un arc en accolade avec rampe de rinceaux, le tout couronné par un pinacle feuillu.

History
It is, in Chartres, the finest example of a door from the first half of the 16th century. The piers, resting on a plinth, bear capitals decorated in their angles. On the right, birds with human heads; on the left, eagles; at the centre, angel's head and fleuron. The ornamentation that covers the face of these piers depicts the attributes of peace and war. On the right, trumpets, drums, viol, violin and bow; on the left, bow and quiver, gauntlet, dragon, armour. Above the entablature, having a frieze embellished with scrollwork ending in dolphin head and cornice, rises a pediment drawn by an ogee arch with scroll ramp, all crowned by a leafy pinnacle.
