Historique
Peu après la fondation de Lauzerte, en 1241, une église fut élevée près de la halle. Elle correspondait seulement à la première travée de l'église actuelle et devint paroissiale après la destruction de Notre-Dame des Vaux au 16e siècle. Elle fut agrandie à partir de 1591. Les travaux durèrent jusqu'en 1654. L'édifice devint alors perpendiculaire à l'orientation primitive. La façade fut construite en 1815. Une partie des voûtes, dont celles de la nef, furent exécutées à la fin du 19e siècle. Le plan de l'église est à nef unique, de trois travées, plus large que le choeur fermé par une abside à cinq pans. La nef est flanquée de six chapelles latérales. Avec le choeur, elle est voûtée d'ogives polygonales dont la retombée se fait sur des colonnettes engagées, couronnées d'un chapiteau à feuillage. Le clocher est rectangulaire. La partie supérieure a été refaite au 17e siècle. Un portail latéral, à voussures et sans tympan, subsiste sur la première travée.

History
Shortly after the foundation of Lauzerte, in 1241, a church was erected near the market hall. It corresponded only to the first bay of the present church and became parochial after the destruction of Notre-Dame des Vaux in the 16th century. It was enlarged from 1591. The work lasted until 1654. The building then became perpendicular to the original orientation. The façade was constructed in 1815. Part of the vaults, including those of the nave, were executed at the end of the 19th century. The plan of the church is a single nave, of three bays, wider than the choir closed by a pentagonal apse. The nave is flanked by six lateral chapels. With the choir, it is vaulted with polygonal rib vaults whose ribs rest on engaged small columns, crowned with a foliated capital. The bell tower is rectangular. The upper part was remade in the 17th century. A lateral portal, with voussoirs and without tympanum, survives on the first bay.
