The Ministère de la Culture's notice
Historique

History
Type of fortified bourgeois house of the 15th century. It is a construction of bricks in which stone is used only for the framing (entrance door, openings) and the corbels of corner turrets. The upper part displays the remains of crenellation which must have extended around the entire perimeter of the construction. The crenellation is carried on a succession of small arcs in brick, placed on corbels and forming machicolations. Sculptured stone gargoyles testify by their location that the roof coverings which today extend the projecting beams over the face of the façades, did not originally exist in this arrangement. The house opens through a door pierced in a boundary wall and opening onto a courtyard which gave access to the main staircase, situated in the angle of the two parts of the dwelling. The latter comprises a ground floor and two storeys, and was used as a prison in 1825.
