The castle is of ancient origin, some of its vaults are earlier than the 11th century. The first known lords date back to the 13th century. During the Wars of Religion, Guillaume de Guilhot, local leader of the reformed party, seized numerous strongholds and accumulated a fortune which allowed him to remodel his castle and make it an important fortress. At the beginning of the 18th century, the building was transformed into a barracks and then into a prison. At the Revolution, the castle is pillaged and sold to various owners. The building presents itself as an irregular hexagon flanked at each of its angles by a tower. Although one still finds there vaults going back beyond the 11th century, it took its present appearance in the 16th century. The main façade is decorated with rich carved decoration dating from this period. The interior preserves an interesting ensemble of fireplaces, as well as a stone staircase with straight flights, decorated with carved motifs.
