Chef-lieu de district ecclésiastique et capitale de la Terre Basse d'Albigeois, Cadalen possédait une importante église du 12e siècle. Une grande partie de l'édifice s'effondra en 1951. Après restauration, le bâtiment fut utilisé comme mairie et école. De l'édifice roman subsiste peu d'éléments. Il était de plan rectangulaire avec abside semi-circulaire. L'abside et le portail latéral sud sont encore visibles. Ce dernier est surmonté d'une corniche à modillons et d'un chrisme. Quelques chapiteaux sont encore en place dans le choeur. Ces quatre chapiteaux représentent l'Ascension, un renard étranglant un coq, la Tentation et le châtiment de l'usurier.

History
Chief town of an ecclesiastical district and capital of the Terre Basse d'Albigeois, Cadalen possessed an important church of the 12th century. A large part of the building collapsed in 1951. After restoration, the building was used as a town hall and school. Few elements remain of the Romanesque edifice. It was of rectangular plan with semi-circular apse. The apse and the south lateral portal are still visible. The latter is surmounted by a cornice with modillions and a chi-rho. A few capitals are still in place in the choir. These four capitals represent the Ascension, a fox strangling a cock, Temptation and the punishment of the usurer.
