Historique
Cette tour était le donjon d'un système de défense dont il ne reste plus que quelques débris de remparts. Montcuq faisait partie du vicomté de Toulouse, et était l'une des places que Raymond, vicomte de Toulouse, s'était engagé à démanteler, d'après le traité passé entre lui et le roi de France. History
This tower was the keep of a defensive system of which only a few debris of ramparts remain. Montcuq formed part of the viscounty of Toulouse, and was one of the strongholds that Raymond, viscount of Toulouse, had undertaken to dismantle, according to the treaty concluded between him and the king of France. The ramparts of the town were destroyed. The tower was stripped of its machicolations, its crenellations, the steps of its staircase and two intermediate floors. The interior of the keep-tower of Montcuq was restored in 2009 under the control of the Bâtiments de France. The collapsed barrel vault above the first level was rebuilt and oak floors were laid at the third and fourth levels. A permanent historical exhibition ("History of a tower") is installed at the third and fourth levels of the building.
