History

The castle was, in the Middle Ages, the residence of the Lombards and bankers of Cahors. The main dwelling is flanked by two round towers to the east, and extended to the west by two wings forming a courtyard of honour whose entrance is marked by two towers. The main façade is enlivened by a tower with cut angles sheltering the spiral staircase which serves the principal rooms of the castle. All the windows of the west façade are decorated. In the 19th century, this façade was probably doubled on the ground floor by a low gallery allowing better use of the living rooms. The interior presents, on the ground floor, the state rooms modified in the 18th century. On the first floor is found a fireplace whose lintel and jambs are decorated with floral and geometric motifs, animals and medallions inscribed in luxuriant vegetation arranged in rinceaux. The lintel is adorned with a female figure surrounded by two armed knights with the inscription "Dame Honeur". The whole is surmounted by a corded motif. On the ground floor of the north-west tower is found the chapel, of octagonal plan. Paintings still visible decorate the walls.
