History
The situation of the town, in a loop of the Lot, determined towards the 14th century the construction of ramparts which, running from one bank to the other, completed the natural defence of the city. Of the two fortified bridges, the Pont Valentré still remains. The rampart possesses a tower, called the Tower of the Hanged. Nearby is a building of the 15th century, a kind of guardhouse furnished with corner watch turrets.
