The Ministère de la Culture's notice
Historique

History
Agricultural estate built between 1874 and 1893 by a Parisian aristocrat. The architecture is inspired by that of the universal expositions. The estate consists of a set of houses built in close dependence on the château, with a central street. Functional appearance is sacrificed to decorative sense: Flemish belfries, Swiss houses, Turkish baths, Arab mosques... The enthusiasm of the period for vernacular architecture is expressed through construction and ornamentation processes. The château, neo-Renaissance, is an example of the pastiche architecture of the Second Empire. The decorative vocabulary of the façades is borrowed from that of 18th-century Toulouse residences (terracotta keys representing antique faces). The lateral wings, of neo-classical style, each present a long building preceded by propylaea with Corinthian capital. Inside the château, the décor uses painting, wallpapers and sculpted wood. The painted ceiling of the dining room, from the 18th century, was brought to the site.
